Module Two: Lesson Three
Component #4: Effective Home Visits
Effective Home Visits
Providing emotional, informational, and material support to families as the basis for family-centered home-based early intervention, and attending to the complex, interrelated needs of developing children and their families.
|Support-Based Home Visits
Many home visits are little more than a clinic-based model dumped on the living room floor. Many involve a toy bag. Many ignore the complex, interrelated needs of developing children and their families. An alternative is based on the view of support as the goals of services.
Robin McWilliam has identified the following purposes for effective home visits:
- To provide an alternative to dumping a clinic-based model on the living room floor
- To support families in providing learning opportunities for their children
- To attend to multiple needs in families
- To make intervention efficient
