Family Planning Medicaid for Today's Woman:Family Planning Medicaid for Today's Woman

 

Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and the Department of Health (DOH) have implemented the Family Planning Medicaid Waiver Program, also known as "Family Planning Medicaid for Today's Woman." This program extends Medicaid coverage for family planning services to all Medicaid eligible women.


Who is eligible for the Family Planning Medicaid for Today's Woman program? A woman may qualify for this program if she:

  • Is between the ages of 14 and 55
  • Has lost full Medicaid services for any reason in the past 24 months
  • Wants to have family planning services
  • Is not pregnant
  • Has not had a hysterectomy or sterilization (tubes tied)
  • Has a household income less than or equal to 185% of the current federal poverty level

What services are available through this program?

  • Physical exams which may include a pap smear, breast exam, and STD testing
  • Family planning counseling and pregnancy test

  • Birth control supplies including condoms
  • Colposcopies and treatment for STDs which are limited to a six week period after a family planning exam, counseling visit, or supply visit
  • Related pharmaceuticals (medicines and antibiotics) and laboratory test

How to sign up for the Family Planning Medicaid program?

 

Women interested must complete an application, provide proof of identity, and proof of income.  Applications may be viewed and printed from these links:

Women who had Medicaid during pregnancy do not have to apply, they are automatically enrolled for the first year. All women must reapply for the second year of services.

Family Planning:

Planning your future is important, especially when it comes to planning your family.

 

Our Family Planning Program provides complete reproductive health and family planning services to promote optimal health.

 

Who is eligible? Women of reproductive age, who had not had a hysterectomy or a tubal ligation. Teens are Welcome!

 

Fees for service are based on income and family size on a sliding fee scale. 

  

Services include, but not limited to:

  • Initial and annual physical examinations 
  • Pap smears/Other lab tests
  • Breast Exam
  • Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • HIV screening and testing
  • Pregnancy test
  • Counseling for both female and male sterilization
  • Screening for other health problems
  • Referral services
  • Health promotion
  • Patient education and counseling
  • Birth Control:
    • Condoms (Male and Female)  
    • Oral Contraceptives ("The Pill")
    • Orthro Evra Patch ("The Patch") 
    • Emergency Contraception ("The morning after pill") 
    • Diaphragm 
    • Intrauterine Device (IUD)  (Paragard, Mirena)
    • Nexplannon (Single Rod) 
    • Depo Provera ("The Shot") 
    • Vasectomies, available by referral

 Breast and Cervical Cancer:

 

The Martin County Health Department offers Breast and Cervical Cancer screenings for women, ages 50-64, with little or no insurance and who meet eligibility requirements.
 
The program is being supported with state and federal funds established under the Mary Brogan Act. Appointment space is limited.
