Dr. Leslie M. Beitsch, MD, JD

Dr. Leslie M. Beitsch, MD, JD was appointed as Deputy Secretary for Health by State Surgeon General Dr. Celeste Philip in April 2018.

Dr. Beitsch is currently the Chair of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Medicine at Florida State University College of Medicine. Prior to joining the Florida State University College of Medicine, he was Commissioner of Health for the State of Oklahoma, serving in that capacity from June 2001 to November 2003. Before that time Dr. Beitsch held several positions within the Florida Department of Health for 12 years, formerly serving as Deputy Secretary.

Dr. Beitsch received his Bachelor or Arts in Chemistry from Emory University in 1977; his Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1980, and his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1988. He will maintain his role at the Florida State University College of Medicine while serving as Deputy Secretary for Health.
