State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP)

Contact the Florida Department of Health

The Florida Department of Health is leading a diverse group of stakeholders to build Florida's State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) for 2017-2021. The SHIP is a statewide plan for public health system partners and stakeholders to improve the health of Floridians.

The partnership will first conduct a comprehensive state health assessment (SHA.) to identify the most important health issues affecting Floridians. The SHIP Steering Committee will then set five-year priorities based upon the health issues and strategic opportunities identified in the SHA. Workgroups will identify goals, strategies and measurable objectives around each priority issue.

In May, we continued our great progress by completing two of four sub-assessments. The Themes and Strength assessment was completed on May 11, 2016 and the Forces of Change assessment was completed on May 9.

The month of June culminated in a presentation on June 29, to the State Health Assessment (SHA) advisory group.

Great progress was made between the months of July and September. As a follow-up to the State Health Assessment Advisory Group (SHA-AG) meeting on June 29, a virtual meeting was held to get their final recommendations.

Great progress was made during the months of November and December. After a successful State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) Steering Committee Meeting in October, in which the priority areas for the SHIP were set, the formation of the Priority Area Workgroups (PAWs) was underway.
