Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections you can get by having sex with someone who has one of these diseases. If you have sex just once with an infected partner, you can become infected whether the sex is genital, oral, or anal. You often will not be able to tell if your partner has an STD. Sometimes there are no signs you can see.

Some STDs leave women unable to have children. Some can kill you or have long-term effects on your health. If a woman is pregnant and has an STD, she and her developing baby may both be affected

People who have sex can protect themselves by taking precautions; don't treat sex casually, have only one sex partner, don't use drugs, and always use a condom correctly. Condoms are available for free from your county Health Clinic. Don't take chances - STDs are preventable if you protect yourself!

The Florida Department of Health in Columbia County has specially trained nurses and physicians to examine, diagnose, and treat both men and women. Early diagnosis and treatment is the best way to decrease complications and in many cases obtain a complete cure. STD examinations are given on Tuesdays of every week.

STD Clinic Hours (Tuesdays): 8:00AM - 11:00AM and then 1:00PM - 3:30PM
