Florida Department of Health in Gulf County

Teen Outreach Program

Teen Outreach Program The Teen Outreach Program (TOP) is a nationally recognized evidenced-based positive youth development that will encourage youth to develop healthy behaviors, increase life skills and provide youth with a sense of purpose. The Florida Department of Health received a grant from the Office of Adolescent Health (OAH), a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to implement the Teen Outreach Program in high schools in 26 Florida counties; Gulf County was one of the counties.

TOP was chosen for the programs outcomes in reducing high-risk behavior among teenagers. It has been proven effective in increasing academic success and preventing teen pregnancy and other negative behaviors among youth.

TOP has demonstrated the following results:
  • 52% lower risk of school suspension
  • 60% lower risk of course failure
  • 53% lower risk of pregnancy
Over the next three years TOP will be implemented in both high schools within Gulf County.

For more information about TOP please call Jessie Hayes at (850) 227-1276 ext. 158.
