EXCAVATION INSPECTION

An excavation inspection will be required when the design engineer specifies an excavation of 48” or greater.

A $75 inspection fee is required and will be due prior to the issuance of the permit.

Once the excavation of drainfield area is complete, leave open.  DO NOT BACKFILL.

 Secure perimeter with caution tape or similar marking. 

Septic tank contractors must fax (preferred method) or call in a request for inspection to the Department of Health prior to the backfill with replacement material. Please use the initial inspection form when faxing your request, noting that this is an excavation inspection.

For all excavation inspections called into the Department of Health by 3:00 P.M., every effort will be made to inspect the dig out the next day.

 For safety reasons a contractor’s representative must be present at all excavation inspections.

When an excavation request is made to he Department of Health, the inspector performing the inspection will call to confirm the time requested as well as confirm that a contractor’s representative will be present during the inspection. The inspector may NOT perform an excavation inspection if they are alone at the construction site.

 Approval or disapproval will be given to the installer’s representative on site at the time the excavation inspection is made
