The Florida Department of Health provides leadership, policy development and technical assistance to reduce the incidence of STD infections and prevent the development of disease-related complications through early identification and treatment of infected persons.

These responsibilities include the development of programmatic activities for STD intervention, community-based screening, media campaigns, public education, partner counseling and referrals services, linkages to other services including AIDS patient care, and prenatal and family planning.

STD prevention and control services are provided through 67 county health departments in cooperation with physicians, laboratories, hospitals, other health care providers and insurance plans.
