Continuing Education

Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
  40Hours Total are Required for Nursing Home Administrators

Required Subject Area Required Number of Hours Important Information
General Hours 38 Must complete at least 20 hours that include personal attendance at a live presentation;
No more than 20 hours of credit for webased, video or audio-transmitted, or on-line instruction programs that require interaction with the instructor;
No more than 10 hours of home-study credits
Medical Error 2 Must be a board approved course

CE Requirements for First Time Renewal
  • Nursing Home Administrators renewing a license for the first time are required to complete 2 hours of medical errors and 1 hour of HIV/AIDS

Board Rule Approved Providers
  • Florida Board approved courses for Nursing Home Administrators can be found at www.cebroker.com
  • Providers that offer continuing education courses approved by the National Association of Board’s of Examiners of Long Term Care Administrators (NAB)
  • College Courses (see Rule)

Other Methods of Obtaining Continuing Education per Biennium
  • Attendance at a Nursing Home Administrator Board meeting
  • Serve as a volunteer expert witness for the Department of Health
  • Board member serving as a member of a probable cause panel after term expires
  • Participation in the development of Florida exam questions
  • Attendance at a national association involved in the establishment of standards of practice or the regulation of nursing home administrators.  Must apply to the Board within 60 days of attendance for approval

Helpful Information
  • No more than 10 hours of homestudy is allowed
  • Preceptor for an administrator in training may receive 10 hours
  • Preceptor for an intern may receive 5 hours
