Withlacoochee and Suwannee River Water Meets Water Quality Standards

STATEMENT FROM THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH: WITHLACOOCHEE AND SUWANNEE RIVER WATER MEETS WATER QUALITY STANDARDS

TALLAHASSEE—The Florida Department of Health has lifted its precautionary health advisory issued on February 28 after the City of Valdosta reported a wastewater plant overflow which spilled into the Withlacoochee River. The Withlacoochee flows south and connects with the Suwannee River.

Recent river water samples taken by the Florida Department of Health in Madison County indicate the river water meets surface water quality standards ensuring the public they may resume water-related activities.
