TALLAHASSEE—The Florida Department of Health today recognized the start of the Capitol’s “Biggest Loser” competition. This annual event, hosted by Senate Health Policy Committee Chair Aaron Bean and House Health and Human Services Committee Chair Richard Corcoran, encourages healthy weight through the legislative session and is open to all members of the legislature, Capitol staff and agency employees.
“I want to thank Chair Bean and Chair Corcoran for leading the way to healthy weight during the 2014 Legislative Session,” said State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong. “The ‘Biggest Loser’ competition is a great way to make healthy weight a team sport.”
Competitions like the Capitol’s “Biggest Loser” program are innovative by shaping environments that promote healthy choices. The Department of Health has launched Healthiest Weight Florida, a public-private collaboration bringing together state agencies, local governments, professional associations, faith-based organizations, and entire communities to help Florida’s children, adults, and families make more informed choices about healthy eating and active living.
