FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH RECOGNIZES NATIONAL LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES WEEK

Tallahassee, Fla.—October 6–12 is National Licensed Practical Nurses Week and the Florida Department of Health recognizes the quality care that Florida’s 43,000 licensed practical nurses (LPNs) provide to Florida’s residents and visitors.

“Licensed practical nurses are on the front lines of health care every day in Florida and throughout the nation,” said State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John Armstrong. “Let’s pause this week and extend our thanks to LPNs everywhere for their dedication.”

LPNs provide patient-centered, evidence-based care and are valuable members of the health care team. They deliver services in a variety of settings, including home health care agencies, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, dialysis centers and doctor’s offices. 

During the 2013–2014 fiscal year, more than 3,900 students graduated from Florida LPN programs. This rewarding profession continues to grow, with an estimated 12,500 LPN full-time vacancies by 2025.
