Tallahassee, Fla.—The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is a collaboration between the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Florida Department of Health’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program to give WIC participants access to fresh, locally grown Florida fruits and vegetables at authorized farmers markets near them at no cost. Pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women and children ages one to five who are enrolled in the WIC program can receive coupons to purchase fresh Florida produce at authorized farmers markets from April 1 to October 8.

In addition to FMNP coupons, registered participants receive a list of authorized farmers’ markets in their area and information about the nutritional importance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables is associated with a decreased risk of many chronic diseases, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes and some cancers. In addition, fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of many essential nutrients, including potassium, vitamin C, folate and fiber.

Once at the farmers’ market, WIC participants should look for farmer’s tables displaying a sign stating "We Gladly Accept FMNP Coupons Here." After choosing from the locally grown FMNP–approved produce available, the WIC participant should show the farmer their WIC ID card, sign their name on the coupon, date the coupon and give the coupon to the farmer.

Below is a list of authorized farmers’ markets that accept FMNP coupons and their days and times of operation.
