Florida Department of Health Issues Daily Update on COVID-19

~Number of COVID-19 Positive Patients Currently Hospitalized Down 70 percent since July~ 

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Health (DOH), in order to provide more comprehensive data, releases a report on COVID-19 cases in Florida once per day. Today, data reported to the Agency for Health Care Administration shows that the number of COVID-19 positive patients that are currently hospitalized is down more than 70 percent since July. As posted on the Agency for Health Care Administration’s hospitalization dashboard at 12:30 p.m., there are 2,683 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19.

Today, data reported to DOH shows there has been a steady decline in the number of reported Florida resident deaths who were previously diagnosed with COVID-19. The fourth week of July compared to the fourth week of August, shows a 75 percent decrease in the average number of reported COVID-19 related deaths.

Today, Florida had the thirty-first straight day below 10 percent positivity of new cases.

Today, as reported at 11 a.m., there are 3,190 new positive COVID-19 cases and 98 reported deaths - 4 occurred yesterday, September 11. 

Test results for more than 79,100 individuals were reported to DOH as of midnight, on Friday, September 11. On September 11, 4.44 percent of new cases** tested positive.

To date, there are a total of 661,571 Florida cases*** with 12,600 deaths related to COVID-19.

Since September 11, the death of ninety-eight Florida residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have been reported in Bay, Brevard, Broward, Citrus, Clay, Dade, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lake, Lee, Marion, Martin, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Suwannee, Union and Volusia counties.

  • To date, 5,192 individuals that were staff or residents of a long-term care facility have died.

The state also provides a report detailing surveillance data for every Florida county, which is available here. The antibody COVID-19 test results report will be provided once a week and contains county, race and lab information on antibody COVID-19 tests conducted in Florida. **This percentage is the number of people who test positive for the first time divided by all tests, excluding people who have previously tested positive.
