Meet The Press Team

The press team coordinates media relations for the department by responding to media inquiries including public records and interview requests. The team is also responsible for advising media outlets across the state and nation about important public health issues and events.

In an effort to be responsive and available to members of the media at all times, especially during an outbreak or serious public health threat, below you’ll find contact information for each member of the press team. After-hour media requests should be sent to Deputy Press Secretary Brad Dalton.


Nick Van der Linden

Nick Van Der Linden joined the Florida Department of Health in 2014 as a Public Information Specialist in the Office of Communications. He had an active role in the daily operations of the media office, including the management of media inquiries and responses. Later that year, Nick stepped in as Interim Deputy Press Secretary, a role which supported the response efforts for the Ebola Virus outbreak during 2014-2015. During this time, he also served as a Speech Writer for the State Surgeon General.

In 2016, he served as the Operations Manager with the Bureau of Performance Assessment and Improvement. Among other duties, he directed the completion and submission of annual reports for the Integrated Local Public Health Department System and Central Office per Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) requirements. Nick has also been an active part of the Department’s current PHAB reaccreditation efforts. Nick received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in communications from Auburn University. During his time at Auburn he received an Academic Excellence Award and Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Nick has earned certification in Six Sigma Green Belt and ToP Facilitation Methods.

Jennifer Case joined the Florida Department of Health as a Social Media Manager and Marketing Coordinator in April 2015. In April 2018, she has been promoted to Interim Media and Marketing Director. She is responsible for developing state-wide marketing and outreach campaigns to promote health in Florida. Jennifer was formerly the Outreach and Special Projects Coordinator for Compass Marketing and Consulting in Tallahassee, serving five years helping local and state clients with their marketing needs. Prior to working at Compass Marketing, she worked as a Graphic Designer for the Florida Department of Education. Jennifer brings 12 years of communications, marketing and graphic design experience to the department. She holds a Master’s in Integrated Marketing Communications from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree in Graphics Communications from Middle Tennessee State University.


Brad Dalton

Brad Dalton joined the Florida Department of Health in May of 2015. He serves as communications coordinator for the division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA). MQA licenses and regulates seven types of facilities and 200-plus license types in more than 40 healthcare professions. Previously, Brad worked in the private sector as Sports Director with WTXL, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee Florida, and brings 13 years of newsroom experience to the department. He owns a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications from Georgia Southern University.

Heather Kelleher joined the Florida Department of Health in July 2015 as a public information specialist. In her role as the executive speechwriter and internal communications specialist, Heather is responsible for coordinating and providing materials to executive leadership for speaking engagements. Heather also writes and develops internal communication products. Prior to this role, she served as the communications coordinator for the Children’s Medical Services Managed Care Plan (CMS Plan). Before joining the Department, her work experience was in academia where she taught writing composition as a graduate teaching assistant. She holds a Master’s in English from Florida State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
