Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) are actions separate from the utilization of medical therapies (such as vaccination, chemoprophylaxis, antibiotics and antivirals), which people and communities can utilize to help prevent or limit the spread of illnesses.  NPIs can also be implemented to help prevent or limit injury and exposure due to biological, chemical or radiological incidents.  Interventions used to manage certain exposures and disease outbreaks may include isolation, quarantine, strategies for restriction on movement and travel advisory/warning, social distancing, external decontamination, hygiene and precautionary protective behavior.
This page contains information and resources that can assist public health and technical experts in developing local plans involving the implementation of NPIs.
