Florida Health Grand Rounds presenter Dr. Jeffrey P. Brosco

Dr. Brosco completed an M.D. and a Ph.D. in the history of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He served as chief resident after training in pediatrics at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, and he is board-certified in Pediatrics and in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Brosco’s research includes an analysis of the history of health care for children in early 20th century Philadelphia, the historical epidemiology of intellectual disability, and the history of newborn screening in the US. With Diane Paul, he is co-author of The PKU Paradox: A Short History of a Genetic Disease (Johns Hopkins Press, 2013). Dr Brosco serves as Chair of the Pediatric Bioethics Committee at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Associate Director of the Mailman Center for Child Development. Dr. Brosco has a leadership role in a variety of local, state, and national health policy groups, including the Act Early State Workgroup (Florida/CDC, co-chair), Newborn Screening Translational Research Network (ACMG/NIH, co-chair of Steering Committee), and PKU Scientific Review Conference (NIH, co-chair of Long-term Outcomes and Management Across the Lifespan workgroup). In 2016 Dr. Brosco was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
