Contact the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention

The Florida Preventive Health & Health Services Block Grant Advisory Committee is a federally mandated (Public Law 102-531, Public Health Service Act) group that was created as a requirement of the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant (PHHSBG).  The purpose of the PHHSBG is to address emerging health issues; decrease premature death and disabilities by focusing on the leading preventable risk factors; achieve health equity and eliminate health disparities by addressing the social determinants of health; support local programs to achieve healthy communities; and establish data and surveillance systems to monitor the health status of targeted populations (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Efforts under this grant must align with Healthy People 2030.

The Florida PHHSBG Advisory Committee serves as an advisory unit to the Florida Department of Health (DOH).  The Advisory Committee consults on the planning, program priorities, funding decisions, and the maintenance of the funding accountability. Current priorities include Healthiest Weight Florida, Chronic Disease Prevention, Public Health Dental, Violence and Injury Prevention, Community Health Assessment, and Community Health Improvement Planning.
