A safe and healthy environment is one form of preventive medicine you cannot get from your health care provider or drugstore. Yet, it is crucial to your family and community's well-being. With a career in environmental health, you can help prevent or reduce potential health risks in your daily surroundings. From publishing advisories on food safety, to providing education on how to protect against mosquitoes, and ensuring public pools are maintained, there are many career opportunities in the realm of environmental health.

Environmental Health professionals at the Florida Department of Health in Gulf and Franklin counties protect the health of the community. These staff share their day to day work that includes septic tank installation permits, public pools and beach water tests, the investigation of animal bites and helping victims receive proper treatment and the documentation and tracking of food and waterborne diseases in the community.  These services are provided across all 67 county health departments in Florida.
