Section 404.056(5), Florida Statutes (F.S.), requires "Radon Gas Notification on Real Estate Documents. Notification shall be provided at time of, or prior to, contract for sale and purchase of any building or execution of a rental agreement". However, "residential transient occupancy is excluded provided that such occupancy is 45 days or less" [S. 509.013(11), F.S.]. The department has developed a free video training about radon, available to realtors, and may provide training at their meetings, if requested ahead of time and if there are no other pressing issues. The U.S. Geological Survey has collected soil and radon data to develop a radon zone potential map and has published a document on the geology of radon. These items are available through the USGS radon home page.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory high-radon project has been developing a statistical methodology for providing improved estimates of local indoor radon concentrations across the United States. The purpose is to enable State or other agencies to identify high-radon counties, or portions thereof, more precisely so that indoor monitoring and control efforts can be focused more effectively. This page describes the project and how to obtain results.

The National Academy of Sciences, NAS, issued a report on the health risks of radon exposure on February 19, 1998. The executive and public summaries are currently available from the EPA's radon web site. The entire text of the report is available online at the NAS web site.
