Louise St. Laurent began serving as General Counsel for the Florida Department of Health in August 2018. Louise is responsible for overseeing the Office of General Counsel (OGC) which provides legal representation for the Department of Health. OGC also provides training, oversight and coordination for the Department's attorneys throughout the state; prepares General Counsel opinions; coordinates risk management referrals, legal assignments and legal representation for all of the Department’s programs and local health departments; and ensures timely and accurate responses to legal issues facing the Department.
Louise previously served as the Deputy General Counsel for the Department’s Prosecution Services Unit, and as Chief Legal Counsel, supervising the Emergency Action Unit and Unlicensed Activity Unit. Before joining the Department of Health in 2013, Louise was an assistant state attorney for the Office of the State Attorney, Second Judicial Circuit in Tallahassee from 2011 to 2013. She appeared on behalf of the State of Florida as a prosecutor in misdemeanor and felony cases.
Louise earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and Political Science from Florida State University in 2007 and her Juris Doctor from Florida State University in 2011.
