Vision Services for Students
Two state funded vision programs help at-risk students achieve academic and social success by augmenting school-based vision screening programs. Florida Heiken Children's Vision Program and Florida's Vision Quest make vision services available to eligible (uninsured) public school students in grades K through twelfth who have failed a school-based vision screening and are in need of follow-up and possible corrective lenses. Funding for these providers is contingent upon the General Appropriations Act (GAA) by the legislature. The total contract allocation for FY 2016-17 is $2,000,000.00. County Health Departments are encouraged to contact either provider for follow up exams and eye glasses for students in their county.
