Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council

The Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council is comprised of five members appointed by the Board of Medicine that include three licensed dietitian/nutritionists, one licensed nutrition counselor, and one consumer member who is 60 years of age or older.

Responsibilities: Handles the administration of seven professions, including legislative and budget issues.

Brielle Clark – Regulatory Supervisor
Responsibilities: Supervises Dietetic/Nutrition staff and administrative support staff.

Ardasha Hardy – Regulatory Specialist Team Lead
Responsibilities: Processes applications for licensure for the Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council and prepares agendas for the Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council’s quarterly meetings. This position also serves as back-up processor for the Boards of Psychology, School Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Electrolysis, Respiratory Care, and Physical Therapy. Submits eligible applicants for examination and runs reports for processing.

Sandrina Murphy – Regulatory Specialist
Responsibilities: Answering all calls for the Medical Therapies Unit, processes applications for licensure for the Dietetics and Nutrition Practice Council and back-up processor for the Boards of Psychology, School Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Electrolysis, Respiratory Care, and Physical Therapy. Processes all mail for the unit and runs daily reports.

Application Review Process and Deadlines

• Applications are accepted on a continuous basis.
• Perspective applicants may use term ending dates to determine pending vacancies.
• Your completed questionnaire will be reviewed by the council during one of its regularly scheduled meetings. The council will make recommendations to the Florida Board of Medicine. The board will determine the meeting date(s) on which it will consider council member candidates and make final appointments.
• Candidates selected for review will receive notice of the meeting at which their application will be considered.

The Florida Dietetics and Nutrition Council is created under section 468.506, Florida Statutes, under the supervision of the Florida Board of Medicine. The council is delegated the following powers and duties: approval and denial of dietician/nutritionist by endorsement or examination, issuance and denial of temporary permits to applicants for endorsement or examination, approval and denial of requests for exemption from employment disqualification pursuant to section 435.07, Florida Statutes, approval and denial of continuing education programs and providers of continuing education programs in dietetics and nutrition practice, and rulemaking proposals, petitions for declaratory statement and petitions to adopt, amend or repeal rules which relate to dietetics and nutrition practice and nutrition counseling and assessment shall be presented to the council.

Council Member Expectations

• Becomes knowledgeable about the regulations governing the profession. Legal experience is not required to meet this expectation; the council staffs an attorney which provides guidance on legal issues/questions.
• Participates in four quarterly public council meetings via conference call per year. Members are provided with materials to be discussed no later than two weeks prior to each scheduled meeting. Members are expected to review and be prepared to discuss and vote on items such as applications for licensure, training school and continuing education provider applications and rule modifications among other items.
• May serve as an officer or liaison for the council. Elections for council officer and liaison positions are conducted at the first scheduled meeting of each calendar year.
• Observes regulations affecting service as a member on the council. After appointment, all new members are required to undergo an orientation in which information is provided on the functions of the council, under the Florida Board of Medicine, and important parameters for service including Florida’s Sunshine Law.
