HIV/AIDS

The Minority AIDS Initiative Program (MAI)

The Florida Department of Health funds county health department and community-based organizations to provide services under the Minority AIDS Initiative (MAI) in counties heavily impacted by HIV/AIDS. MAI providers implement the Antiretroviral Treatment and Access to Services (ARTAS) intervention. ARTAS is a strengths-based case management, client-driven approach used to target recently or previously (no care for at least six months) diagnosed minorities living with HIV to medical care and social services. ARTAS encourages clients to identify and use personal strengths to get in and retain themselves in care with the assistance of ARTAS case managers. MAI clients receive case management, assistance with applying for qualifying benefits (ADAP, Medicaid, Medicare) and other services as needed.
