Minority AIDS Initiative

HIV/AIDS

The Florida Department of Health funds county health departments and community-based organizations to provide services under the Minority AIDS Initiative (MAI) in counties heavily impacted by HIV. MAI providers implement the Antiretroviral Treatment and Access to Services (ARTAS) intervention. ARTAS is a strengths-based, client-driven approach used to link recently or previously (no care for at least six months) diagnosed minorities living with HIV to medical care and social services.

ARTAS encourages clients to identify and use personal strengths to overcome barriers to entering and remaining in medical care. ARTAS also aims to create effective relationships between clients and linkage coordinators. MAI clients receive case management, assistance with applying for qualifying benefits (ADAP, Medicaid, Medicare) and other services as needed.
