Safe Toys Are the Best Toys

December 17, 2018

Ensure that your holiday season is healthy, safe and fun by choosing safe toys as gifts. The first step is to choose toys for a child that are age-appropriate and match the interest and skill level.

When buying a toy or game, take a moment to read the instructions and consider the child’s age when making a purchase. Pay careful attention to small pieces, including smaller batteries that may be included in electronic toys and TV remote controls. Even though a toy is for an older child, that doesn’t mean it can’t pose a potential danger for younger, more curious siblings. Be sure to include a helmet when purchasing a bike, skateboard or scooter for your child.

Additionally, parents should also be cautious of the placement of ornaments if they decorate a tree this holiday season. Breakable ornaments and decorations that have metal hooks should be moved toward the top of the tree to avoid the risk of injury.

For more information about choosing safe toys this holiday, please visit the department’s website. You can also visit Safe Kids Worldwide for additional information regarding toy safety.
