The Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program makes it easy to get recommended breast and cervical cancer screenings. Eligible women can receive screenings for free or at low-cost if the following program eligibility requirements are met.

  • At least 40 years old
  • Has little or no health insurance
  • Meets income guidelines of the program
  • Lives in Florida

Services provided include:

  • Breast and cervical cancer screening exams (clinical breast exams, mammograms, and Pap tests) to approximately 5% of the at need population, as funding allows.
  • Diagnostic funds are reserved for women screened through the program.
  • Care coordination to all clients with abnormal exams.
  • Women screened through the program and diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer are referred to Florida Medicaid for eligibility determination.
Program Information

Florida’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program is also known as the Mary Brogan Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, per section 381.93, Florida Statutes.

The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, created in response to the Breast and Cervical Cancer Mortality Act of 1990; Public Law 101-354, has funded the Florida Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program since 1994.

Funding is administered through the Florida Department of Health and services are provided across the state to ensure statewide access.

National non-profit organization assuring access to care, maintenance of employment and preservation of financial stability following a diagnosis of a life threatening or debilitating disease. They also have a program that provides co-pay assistance to those who qualify.

American Breast Cancer Foundation, Key To Life Program provides individuals in need with financial assistance for mammograms and diagnostic testing. Also offers help with medication, wigs, and other resources.

National Center for Farmworkers Health
The National Center for Farmworkers Health operates a toll free bilingual health information and referral service to provide assistance in locating health care and financial assistance once all other resources have been exhausted.

CancerCare is a national non-profit organization that provides free, professional support services including referrals for financial assistance, insurance co-pays, medications, as well as information on cancer.
