The purpose of the advisory committee is to address emerging health issues; decrease premature death and disabilities by focusing on the leading preventable risk factors; support local programs to achieve healthy communities; and establish data and surveillance systems to monitor the health status of targeted populations. Efforts under this grant must align with Healthy People 2030.   

The committee serves as an advisory unit to the Florida Department of Health. The committee consults on the planning, program priorities, funding decisions, and the maintenance of funding accountability. Current priorities include chronic disease prevention, dental, violence and injury prevention, and community health and improvement.
