Rare Disease Advisory Council

The Rare Disease Advisory Council was established in section 381.99, Florida Statutes, to assist the Florida Department of Health in providing recommendations to improve health outcomes for individuals residing in the state who have a rare disease.

Membership and Appointments

The council is comprised of 22 members serving four-year terms. Ten members are appointed by the Governor, six members are appointed by the President of the Senate, and six members are appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Reports and Publications

Beginning July 1, 2022, the Rare Disease Advisory Council will submit an annual report to the Governor and State Surgeon General which describes the activities of the advisory council throughout the year as well as its findings and recommendations regarding rare disease research and care.
