Continuing education (CE) is required as part of the license renewal process. The Florida Department of Health provides several resources that may be of use in determining whether your continuing education has been completed.

This resource can be used to confirm that your CE transcript is complete for the current renewal cycle.


Renewal CE Requirements
First Renewal

If a license is issued in the first year of the biennium (in an even year), the licensee will be required to satisfy all CE hour requirements prior to their first renewal.

If a license is issued in the second year of the biennium (in an odd year), the licensee will not be required to satisfy all CE hour requirements prior to their first renewal. The licensee will be required to complete only a two hour course in prevention of medical errors.

Domestic Violence

2 hours are required every third biennium (every six years) in addition to the 20 required hours above.

Courses on domestic violence must be a minimum of one hour in duration, and must cover the substantive areas set forth in Section 456.031, Florida Statutes, as it pertains to the practice of midwifery. Courses on domestic violence must be approved by a state or federal agency or professional association in the United States or offered by an approved CE provider. Home study courses on domestic violence will be accepted.

Home Study Courses

Home study courses may be used to complete up to five hours of continuing education.

For Midwives Residing Outside Florida

Courses approved by state agencies which regulate health care professionals may be used to satisfy continuing education requirements. Courses must have clinical relevance to the practice of midwifery and must meet minimum standards for approved continuing education in Florida.

Other Courses

The Department may consider additional coursework on an individual basis. A written request and appropriate documentation must be provided to Council staff to verify the course meets minimum standards for continuing education.
