Licensed midwives are required to renew their licenses biennially to maintain the right to practice. The renewal deadline for licensed midwives is December 31 of the renewal year, every odd year.
A licensed midwife will complete the following steps as part of renewal:
- Meet CE requirements and report completion in CEBroker
- Submit a renewal application and associated fees
- Submit an updated Emergency Care Plan for Delivery
- Complete a mandatory background screening or retain* your current fingerprints
Renew Online
Eliminate mailing time and expedite your application. Receive a response within 10-13 business days.
*Required by section 456.0135(6)(1), Florida Statutes, a $43.25 fee is required for FDLE to retain your fingerprint for background screening during this licensure cycle. This fee is collected at the time of license renewal if your fingerprint retention is expiring this licensure period. If your fingerprint retention expires in the next 60 days, you will need to pay separately through the Clearinghouse Applicant Initiated System.
Renewal Instructions
- Visit FLHealthSource
- Enter your Personal Identifying Information (PII), then click the Login button.
- Confirm or update your MQA Services Account email address, then click the “Continue” button.
- You are now in the Dashboard. During renewals, a “Renew My License” option will populate no later than 90 days prior to your license expiration date. (Note: If you do not see the “Renew My License” option, please check back at a later time.)
*** If the “PII Failed” screen displays, click the “Other Login Option” button and enter your existing User ID and password to access your account.***
Once a license has been renewed, you will receive a license within 7-10 business days. Contacting Council staff or the Department will not expedite the process of receiving your license.
Licenses that are not renewed by the renewal deadline will become delinquent and will remain delinquent for up to two years, unless the license is reinstated out of delinquency.
Licenses that have been delinquent for two years will become null and void after the renewal deadline. A license that becomes null and void cannot be reinstated; to become re-licensed, you will have to reapply.

Public School Health Volunteer Exemption
If you volunteer your services in public schools for a minimum of 80 hours a year or if retired, at least 400 hours a year, you may be eligible for a waiver of your biennial renewal fee and some of the continuing education hours (no more than 25%) required for license renewal; however, the continuing education requirements for domestic violence, HIV and AIDS, and medical errors cannot be waived.

License Status Changes
The license status for current licenses is typically reported in two parts. A licensee who is able to practice will typically have a license in CLEAR, ACTIVE status.
The first part of the license status states whether the license is CLEAR or DELINQUENT. A licensee may not practice on a license that is DELINQUENT, as the license has not been renewed.
The second part of the license can be ACTIVE or INACTIVE. This affects whether a licensee must complete Continuing Education requirements for renewal. A licensee may not practice on an INACTIVE license. A license in INACTIVE status must still be renewed; Continuing Education requirements will be verified when a licensee elects to move from INACTIVE to ACTIVE status, either during renewal, or by submitting a request and appropriate fees to the Board outside renewal.
