Food access projects don’t only involve health issues, but also community development. For this reason, access to healthy and affordable food is a key component in a healthy, sustainable community. The long-term goal of the food access projects is to advance community health by increasing access to healthy food to help reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity.
SNAP
Florida SNAP provides food benefits to low-income families to supplement their grocery budget so they can afford the nutritious food essential to health and well-being.
Women, Infants, and Children
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding or who have recently been pregnant, infants, and children under age 5.
Fresh Access Bucks
Increases purchasing power of SNAP recipients for fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers markets, produce stands, mobile markets, etc.
Summer Break Spot
Provides nutritious meals at no cost to children 18 and under while school is out for the summer, and operates at schools, parks, and libraries.
Congregate Meal and Nutrition
Provides nutritionally balanced meals, nutrition education, and nutrition risk screening for Floridians aged 60 years and older and their spouses.
Commodity Supplemental Food
Distributes monthly food packages to elderly persons, 60 years of age or older, who are eligible based on income and reside in a qualifying county.
