The Insulin Distribution Program is a safety-net program that is available when there is no other resource available for the insulin.

The Florida Department of Healthโ€™s Central Pharmacy and county health departments (CHDs) with a licensed pharmacy are authorized to fill client-specific insulin prescriptions.

CHDs without a licensed pharmacy will forward insulin prescriptions to the Central Pharmacy.

The Insulin Distribution Program currently offers Humulin N, Humulin R, and Humulin 70/30 insulins. This list is subject to change.

Eligibility Requirements

When the applicant submits the application, and a prescription for insulin is received, the CHD will determine the applicantโ€™s eligibility based on the criteria below:

  • Self-declared resident of Florida
  • Diagnosis of diabetes
  • Uninsured, lacking insurance that covers insulin, or has an insurance deductible or copay that the applicant cannot afford
  • Net family income at or below 100% of theย federal poverty guidelines
  • Has no more than $2,500 in private funds, bank accounts, or assets, other than a homestead
  • Not a current Medicaid recipient

The CHD has the authority to make the final determinations of eligibility for the program.


Application for Program Participation

Individuals applying to participate in the program must complete the program application and provide a current prescription for insulin.
