When to Mitigate

Icon Notice Green

If your radon values are below 8 pCi/l (picoCuries per liter) you should consider re-testing.

The purpose of retesting is to confirm your radon levels and evaluate the need for mitigation. Once you receive your new test results, average the two test results. If both tests were performed for the same number of days, you can simply average the two sets of results. If the two tests were performed for different periods, we recommend that you time-weight average the results.

If the time-weighted average of the two results is over 4 pCi/l, it is recommend you mitigate your home

As a general rule, if your radon levels are between 4-8 pCi/l, you should mitigate to protect occupants health, but you can take a little time to perform additional diagnostics if desired (mitigate within 6 months).

When radon levels are confirmed over 8 pCi/l, you should mitigate as soon as reasonably possible.

For levels much higher, such as 100 pCi/l, immediate action should be taken to reduce exposure.
